Plumbing Vent - Know Before You Buy Home Inspections

Common Roofing Issue: Cracked PVC Boots and How to Fix Them

Last Updated: May 29, 2024By

I frequently encounter this issue, and a professional roofer typically repairs it. The PVC pipe extending from your roof is a plumbing vent that allows air into the plumbing system to ensure it operates correctly. While this seems simple, problems can arise with the PVC “boot” installed around the pipe.

Over time, these boots can crack and warp, leading to leaks. Often, these leaks go undetected for a while due to the small size of the water intrusion. This might be the culprit if you notice a small stain on your ceiling and can’t identify the cause.

A professional roofer can easily and quickly replace the damaged boot. Inspecting your roof occasionally to catch this issue early and save yourself some trouble is a good idea.
